Shake Weed – The Leftovers of the Weed World

Weed shake. Shake weed. Would a weed by any other name smell just as sweet? The answer is yes, and no. Clear as mud, right? Let us clarify.

Have you ever picked up some weed only to find that the contents inside are incredibly dry, dusty, and filled with weed scraps? How about finishing up a baggie and finding a collection of what is essentially weed crumbs at the bottom of your stash?

These scraps or leftovers are known as weed shake, and if you’re not sure what it is, whether or not it can get you high, and how to best use it, we’re going to break down the nitty-gritty details of these nitty-gritty bits of weed.

Let’s get started!

What is Weed Shake?

Weed shake, also known as shake weed, is the leftover bits, pieces, and scraps of dried weed flower that have either fallen off in the bag during regular handling or the debris that collects at the bottom of the weed jar after a budtender has sold everything.

Weed, as we all know, doesn’t last forever. If you know how to store weed, you’ll likely know that you can safely keep weed fresh for a long time under the right conditions. However, this doesn’t mean that it can or will retain its structural integrity.

Whenever you open your stash jar to pull out a little bit of that good, a few stems, leaves, and bud pieces are inevitably going to fall apart and sink to the bottom of the container. We call these leftover pieces “shake” because these bits usually accumulate after your stash box or jar is shaken.

At dispensaries, weed shake is often collected and sold separately from other dried flower. Besides being aesthetically unpleasing, it is also not as potent or as flavourful as regular bud.

This is because shake weed usually lacks kief and the other plant parts that make weed tasty and potent.

That said, before you throw it out, weed shake isn’t entirely useless! Below, we’ll outline the many ways to use shake weed.

What is it Used For?

using shake weed

Shake weed won’t give you the most optimal smoking session, but it will still get you high. You can roll a joint with shake weed like you would with a regular dry flower. Just be sure to temper your expectations in terms of potency and flavour.

As we said before, it’s not going to be the same as smoking regular bud!

Apart from smoking it outright, many dispensaries use weed shake to make pre-roll joints. Shake weed is cheap, inexpensive, and naturally created through the day-to-day operations of a dispensary.

As budtenders remove bud from the jar for their customers, bits of weed will ‘shake’ off and tumble to the bottom. At the end of the day, this excess weed is collected and commonly used to create pre-rolls.

Is this a sneaky tactic? Yes. Does it still get you high at a low price? Also yes.

On the flip side, higher-end dispensaries will throw away their shake weed and use regular, full-bud weed in their pre-rolls instead. If you’re shopping for joints, be sure to ask the budtender what kind of weed they use!

At Pyro, we pride ourselves on quality and potency in every cannabis product we stock and distribute to our customers. In this way, we find it pertinent to let you know that none of our products are created using shake weed.

When you buy from us, you can rest assured that you are smoking or vaping a high-quality cannabis product without compromising potency, flavour or price!

Apart from being smoked, weed shake can also be implemented as an ingredient to make edibles and cannabis concentrates, with great economic value. Since edibles and concentrates focus on extracting and concentrating the psychoactive cannabinoid within weed, THC, using weed shake is not much different from using full bud flower.

However, higher-quality concentrates such as premium shatter, live resin, HTFSE extracts, and distillates will require full bud flower to maximize the flavour and potency they can provide – like our premium Pyro products!

That said, if you’re making edibles or concentrates at home and want to save a buck, weed shake is your best bet!

Pros & Cons of Shake Weed

smoking a joint

Now that we’ve covered what weed shake is and its most common uses, at this point, you’re probably wondering to yourself – is it good, or should I throw it away?

Well, the answer to that depends on a few things.

First things first, it comes down to how much money you’re willing to spend on weed. If you want to get high without breaking the bank, then weed shake is the frugal product for you. It’s budget-friendly, inexpensive, and you can find it almost anywhere.

Weed shake is perfect for rolling into joints, and it’s easy to decarboxylate if you’re making edibles since it’s already so small and cut up.

Alternatively, if you have the budget to splurge, you may not necessarily need to settle for shake weed.

Secondly, it depends on your desired weed experience. If it’s flavourful terpenes, a favourite strain, or wanting to know what weed you’re smoking that you’re after, shake weed is a bad choice.

Usually, weed shake is sold by combining many different jars of shake together, so it’s almost impossible to know which strains are inside.

Do some strains give you a bad time? Do you have a specific flavour or effect that you’re going after? If so, stay away from weed shake.

The third and final factor to consider is the quality of the weed you’re after. Quality varies greatly across strains and locations, but one thing that remains constant throughout is the weed shake’s quality.

Spoiler alert: it’s not very high.

Weed shake is literally the leftovers of the weed world. It’s going to be dried out, not very potent, and also not very tasty. If you’re fine with that, then weed shake is perfect.

However, if you want something quality, then shake weed will not scratch that itch for you. Better opt to dank weed instead.

Shake Weed – Your Budget-Friendly Bud

The next time you find some leftover bits and pieces of bud at the bottom of your stash box, think twice before throwing them away.

While they may not be the most potent or flavourful portions of your stash, it doesn’t mean that these leftovers are without their uses.

If you’re a penny pincher or someone who appreciates making the most of your spending, shake weed is the ideal product for getting the most bang for your buck and will still get you high.

You can roll it into a joint, use it to create your own at-home concentrates or integrate it into edibles. The choice is yours!

However, if you’re purchasing pre-rolls from a dispensary, keep in mind that these may be created using leftover shake weed. In this way, you may not know 100% of what you’re getting.

So, be sure to ask what they’re made with before buying so that you can accurately gauge your potential experience.

That said, with our premium Pyro Extracts products, you can rest assured that our items only contain top-shelf ingredients that don’t sacrifice potency or flavour. All you need to concern yourself with is which one of our quality products you’re going to try first!
