Hemp Milk – Benefits & How to Make it

The world of cannabis has brought us many great things, with hemp milk being just one example of a wide variety of cannabis products.

That’s right, there is such a thing, and before you ask, no, it’s not called weed milk, but rather hemp milk.

Cannabis has been part of humankind’s way of life for hundreds if not thousands of years. For generations, humans have used the cannabis plant for a variety of different purposes. It can produce crafting textiles through its hemp yarn, psychoactive cannabinoids for therapeutic relief, and even hemp seeds for a nutritious source of food.

Hemp milk is one of many different dairy-free milk alternatives, and it’s one of our favourites as well.

But the reason we love it so much isn’t just because it comes from the cannabis plant. Hemp milk has a whole lot more to it than just that.

It’s a rich source of high-quality protein and essential fatty acids, it may help with reducing ageing, and best of all, we think it’s one of the best tasting milk substitutes on the market today!

If you’re on the fence about hemp milk or are interested in learning more about this non-dairy milk alternative, keep on reading!

What is Hemp Milk?

what is hemp milk

Hemp milk is a highly nutritious plant-based milk that is made of hemp seeds and water.

It contains a high amount of healthy fats including a well-balanced ratio of omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids as well as high-quality amino acids and minerals to keep your body running like a well-oiled machine.

Unlike many other plant-based milk alternatives, hemp milk has a thick and creamy consistency and a light nutty flavour that is somewhat similar to pine nuts.

Thanks to its creamy consistency and neutral flavour, it can be used as a substitute for milk for just about anything.

Amazing, right?

Does Hemp Milk Get You High?

This is probably one of the main questions about hemp milk.

If you’re new to cannabis culture or plant-based milk, getting high from cannabis milk may seem like a perfectly good assumption, but rest assured, it does not.

This nutritious beverage is only known to carry trace amounts of THC. Such a small amount that there is no possibility of it producing any mind-altering effects.

That said, if you yourself are a cannabis enthusiast, you can also infuse hemp milk to give it a little extra edge as a drinkable edible. And of course, infusing your beverage will likely change the flavour profile as well.

Instead of a light nutty taste, you’ll have a bit of that signature cannabis flavour mixed.

What Are The Benefits?

One of the first things you’ll notice about hemp milk is that it boasts a very diverse and rich nutritional content.

It has one of the highest protein contents of any non-dairy alternative available. Its nutritional value based on a 250ml serving is actually quite impressive.

For every 250ml of hemp milk, you’ll be getting 110 calories, 7 g carbs, 7 g fat, and 5 g protein. In addition to this, it contains a decent amount of potassium and a hefty amount of iron, an essential mineral that is critical in the transportation of oxygen in red blood cells.

And while hemp milk may have more fat than most other dairy alternatives like soy or almond milk, these fats are actually healthy fats. They’re a combination of omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids, which may help to promote skin health by reducing inflammation and signs of ageing

Not to mention omega 3 fatty acid is a key player in the regulation of mood, as people who consume it on a regular basis are less likely to experience depression.
