Live Rosin – A Cool Take on Solventless Extracts

Although live rosin shares half of its name with regular rosin, the similarities between these two cannabis concentrates end there.

Live rosin isn’t all too different from regular rosin. Still, there is one essential difference between the two that’ll heavily impact the overall taste, texture, and smoke experience of rosin’s quote-on-quote “living” cousin.

What is Rosin?

Before we get into live rosin, let’s first examine what regular rosin is.

Instead of describing it as a cannabis concentrate, it’ll be more apt to say that rosin is a production process.

Traditional weed extracts such as shatter, wax, and crumble are a class of cannabis concentrates known as butane hash oil concentrates, or BHOs. BHOs require the use of a solvent, namely butane, to extract all of the desirable cannabinoids and terpenes out of the starting cannabis material.

While the solvents are evaporated and burned off during the production process, there have been instances where leftover solvent remnants from low-quality extractions caused negative health repercussions

Instead of using solvents, rosin uses heat and pressure exclusively. High-quality cannabis flower is wrapped in either wax paper or parchment paper and then pressed between 2 heated plates. The oil, terpenes, and cannabinoids then slowly leak out from the pressed cannabis and are collected and packaged for consumption.

Live Rosin vs. Rosin

Are you experienced in the cannabis space? Chances are you’ve already seen the words “live” being used to describe cannabis concentrates before.

Despite what the name implies, these cannabis concentrates aren’t alive. The term “live” is used to describe any cannabis concentrate that’s made with undried and uncured cannabis that’s been flash-frozen at the point of harvest.

Live resin, a BHO cannabis concentrate, is made the same way. The starting cannabis flower is never cured or dried.

Similarly, live rosin uses the same starting material. These flash-frozen buds are squeezed together using immense pressure and gentle heat to extract all of the dank goodness out of the buds.

What’s the Benefit of Live Rosin?

One of the main reasons this is preferred and sought after over other cannabis concentrates is terpenes.

While the drying and curing process is essential to enjoy cannabis, this process also inevitably degrades and removes some of the terpenes found in the original plant. You can’t smoke fresh cannabis and enjoy these terpenes, so live cannabis extracts are the only way.

A Fresh Perspective Worth Trying

If you thought that rosin was tasty, you’re going to be blown away by Live Rosin. While it’s not widely available just yet, more and more organizations, including us at Pyro Extracts, are starting to look into the production process.
