A space cake, also known as a cannabis cake, is any cake or pastry that’s created with a cannabis or THC infusion.

In the past, tokers primarily made space cakes with butter or oil infused with cannabis. Today, as cannabis innovations continue to surprise and impress tokers, tokers can now make space cakes with distillate, tinctures and even edibles! Gummy-encrusted cakes? Sign us up!

While the form and aesthetic may vary, as long as the cake is infused with weed, it can be called a space cake. That means that even a humble cupcake, a large muffin or a fluffy brownie can be considered a space cake – as long as it’s medicated!

Despite their long history, space cakes have fallen out of popularity in recent times due to the availability of other weed edibles and consumables. The weed gummies, chocolates and candies of today not only offer precise and accurate dosing instructions, but they’re also leagues ahead of what was available at the time.

However, a space cake is nothing if not decadent and indulgent.

After all, you don’t bake a cake to eat all by yourself (but you certainly could); you bake a space cake to share and enjoy with friends! Picture a large feast or an amazing spread; wouldn’t a space cake make the perfect centrepiece for the entire evening?

There’s no other form of baked cannabis edibles that can come close to matching the “wow factor” of a space cake. Pot brownies and weed cookies just don’t come close!

Another benefit of baking a space cake? Well, it’s a cake! Not only is it rich, moist and decadent, you’ll also be able to get high off of your beautiful creation! What’s not to love?

Fortunately, these delicious cakes are still available for purchase throughout much of Amsterdam’s weed cafes. But if you want to bake, enjoy and get high off one without travelling to Europe, you should stick around because we’re about to show you how it’s done!

How to Bake a Space Cake – Space Cake Recipe

Baking a space cake isn’t all that different from making a regular cake – the only difference is the added THC! You don’t need to be a decorated baker or own a patisserie to make an infused cake; you just need to have a bit of time, some patience and of course, some weed!

There’s no right or wrong way to make a space cake. You can feel free to attack this recipe from whichever angle you’d like. Whether you choose to use a package of mix or to make one from scratch, the only thing you’ll have to really pay attention to is how you’re going to infuse it with weed.

Cannabis Infusion

Despite what you might think, you can’t eat raw weed. All cannabis flower must go through a process known as decarboxylation before the cannabinoids can be “activated” and used by our bodies. While it sounds scientific, the process is actually straightforward to do.

To decarboxylate your cannabis, simply grind it finely, pop it into the oven at a medium temperature for about 40 minutes and remove it once it’s lightly browned. And voila! You just decarboxylated cannabis!

You won’t need any AAAA or top-shelf bud to do this – strain effects and characteristics don’t carry over to edibles, so you could even use some trim or popcorn weed to cut down on costs if you’d like.

From here, you can add your decarbed cannabis to your butter, oil or whatever fat you have on hand to infuse it with THC! THC is fat-soluble but not water-soluble, so you’d have to choose a liquid or substance with a high-fat content to ensure the THC will stick!

Now that you have your decarboxylated and infused cannabis mixture, it’s time to bake the space cake!

Ingredients & Instructions

Most cake recipes call for a mixing bowl, some milk, 2 eggs, 1 cup of chocolate chips, baking powder, vanilla extract, and a host of other ingredients to make space cakes, but we’re just going to tell you to follow the instructions for your package of mix.

To bake your space cake here’s what you’ll need

  • Package of Cake Mix
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Infused Cannabis Mixture
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Cannabis butter (optional)
  • Distillate (optional)
  • Tincture (optional)
  • Measuring Cup

Once you have all the ingredients and tools assembled, creating your space cake is as easy as following the instructions on the package and adding in your distillate, cannabis tincture or cannabis mixture and any other desired toppings before throwing it into the oven to bake.

Yes, it’s that easy! The only thing you’ll have to watch out for is giving the cake batter a thorough mixing to ensure that the cannabis mixture or cannabis butter is incorporated within the cake batter.

If the batter isn’t mixed properly, the effects of the final product might be concentrated entirely into one piece! This is an issue that’s commonplace with homemade edibles, so be sure to follow this space cake recipe to the tee and give your batter a good beating!

Additionally, you’ll also need some time to allow the cake to cool before you dig into your creation. Waiting an hour or two hours should be enough for the temperature to drop low enough for you to enjoy your medicated oven delight!
