3 Reasons Why You Need to Try Cannabis Concentrates

Have you ever tried cannabis concentrates? While there is a nostalgic charm in indulging in some classic, good old-fashioned dry flower, these potent products have taken the cannabis market by storm in recent years. It’s not hard to understand why!

While cannabis concentrates of yore may have been considered dangerous, the concentrates scene has changed drastically since widespread legalization. Since then, the low-effort, somewhat sketchy producers have been wedged out by dedicated, artisan craftspeople who take pride in their products.

So, if safety has been your primary concern when debating trying cannabis concentrates, you can rest assured! With the influx of cannabis concentrates appearing on the market from a wide range of producers, standards are high to produce top-quality, safe concentrates.

That said, depending on who you ask, these products still get a bad rep from some people who consider them to be too harsh, even though they are derived from your standard cannabis flower.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of misinformation out there. This skepticism and bias prompt some tokers to be nervous about trying cannabis concentrates as a result, despite them being a healthier, tastier and more potent alternative to dry flower!

If trying cannabis concentrate isn’t on your agenda already, let us help move you in the right direction and break down some of the potential barriers that may be making you feel uneasy.

Here are 3 reasons why you should consider trying cannabis concentrates!

Cannabis Concentrates are Tastier

When smoking bud in a joint, bong or pipe, you aren’t actually tasting the plant matter but the terpenes in the plant. For those who may not know, terpenes are chemical compounds naturally found in nature. They are responsible for giving plants – including cannabis – fruit, and other flora their distinctive smells and flavours.

In this way, you should never underestimate the power of these tiny terpenes. They can make all the difference!

Have you ever indulged in the pleasantly sweet and zesty sour flavours of Cinex? You can thank the limonene terpene for giving this bud a hint of lemon flavour that sticks to your tongue. Do you enjoy the soothing smell and relaxing effects of lavender? The terpene linalool is responsible for giving strains such as White Lavender their soothing scent and uplifting effects.

As you can see, terpenes are found everywhere, including some of your favourite strains. When you spark up some of your favourite bud, the terpene-laden smoke enters your mouth and nose, giving that distinctive aroma and flavour you know and love!

That said, there aren’t that many terpenes in dry cannabis flower by volume. A decent strain will have, on average, 20% THC content by volume and 1% or terpene count or less. This fact is because dry cannabis flower has other plant matter, such as chlorophyll, fats, lipids and a whole lot of other junk that turns into tar when you inhale it.

Cannabis concentrates, except for isolates, are 80 to 95% THC by volume, with the remainder made up of terpenes and oils, such as coconut oil. This concentration means that cannabis concentrates, including shatter, budder and the distillate we use in our THC distillate vaporizer cartridges, pack tons more flavour and potency than regular cannabis flower!

They’re also healthier, too! We’ll dive into that in more detail in the following section.

Vaping is Healthier than Smoking

If you’re a health-conscious toker, vaping is by far one of the safest, superior consumption methods for indulging in some righteous reefer. If you’re skeptical, don’t be. We’ve got the evidence to back it up!

First things first, smoke is inherently bad for your lungs. Whether it be smoke from a fire or from weed, it contains harmful contaminants, such as ash, tar and carcinogens, that enter your body and are filtered out by your lungs.

While these unsavoury elements are most prominent in cigarette smoke, cannabis smoke from more traditional smoking methods such as joints or blunts also has tar and excess plant matter that could do some damage to your lungs over time.

Vaping, however, converts the dry bud or cannabis concentrate into vapour, which you can easily and comfortably inhale without any ash, contaminants or irritation.

In a study comparing the effects of smoking vs vaporizing weed, the results showed that tokers who vaped the cannabis experienced fewer respiratory symptoms than those who smoked.

Essentially, the ‘high’ effect comes from the cannabinoids and terpenes present in your weed. All that extra plant matter, ash and tar you’re burning to reap the benefits of those two things aren’t necessary or worth it in the long run. It also isn’t required with the invention of cannabis concentrates.

Now, you can have your bud and vape it too! What a concept!

Producers derive cannabis concentrates from extracting these components from cannabis flower. However, this extraction process takes it a step further by eliminating all the other bad stuff. Not only does this make the final product more potent, but it also makes them safer to consume.

That said, this concentration is why you typically vape, dab or ingest cannabis concentrates in edibles. There simply isn’t enough dry matter to combust.

Long story short, if you’re concerned about your long-term lung health, now might be the time to give vaping cannabis concentrates a try!

Extracts are Potent and Last Longer than Flower

cannabis concentrates pros

This question goes out to all of our smoke weed everyday tokers out there – how long does a gram last you? An eighth? What about a quarter? Depending on how often you smoke, the answers to these questions may range anywhere from a week to a few months.

If you’ve been smoking on primo weed, then one joint will likely be enough to get you sky high on the high scale without needing to roll another. If you’re smoking ditch weed, then, well, let’s just say your lungs aren’t the only things that are going to suffer!

Smokers on a budget will understand the woes of needing to pick up another dime bag because their first wasn’t enough. On the flip side, quality weed will definitely get you stoned, but it comes with a higher price tag.

In other words, expect to pay top dollar for quality strains with a high THC content. Ditch weed is more affordable, but you have to smoke more of it to produce the desired effects, which can irritate your lungs and be incredibly inconvenient.

Think of it this way. Do you really want to take 5-10 consecutive bong hits in a row just to feel a little buzzed?

It’s not ideal, to say the least!

What’s the alternative? If you’ve made it this far into the article, you likely know the answer. Cannabis extracts, of course!

Compared to dry flower, extracts will have a THC potency anywhere from 80-99%, depending on the concentrate type. While you might need a joint or two as a nightcap to help you fall asleep, one or two hits from a THC vape pen or dabbing a bit of shatter will be more than enough to get you elevated.

You can buy both flower and concentrates, including shatter, rosin and THC distillate, by the gram. That said, a gram of a dab will likely last much longer – and get you higher – than a gram of regular flower.

Consider the fact that a gram of flower typically lasts for one to two joints, three if you’re rolling them thin. You’ll need to burn down one joint to start feeling the effects. If you’re already feeling loosey-goosey halfway through, you’re forced to throw it away.

On the other hand, you consume dabs and other cannabis concentrates in extremely tiny dosages, like a third of your pinky’s fingernail size. For many, even that dose is enough to get them absolutely blitzed! Delivering a minimum of 85% potency, it’ll be more surprising if concentrates didn’t take you to a whole other level!
